Spirits RC Flying Club met at B. Halls restaurant; meeting called to order at 7:05
Secretary’s Report:
- Paul Geders subbed for Stephen Adams.
- 20 Members in attendance.
- Website is getting a new hosting service package. Reduces costs dramatically. Please report new issues to admin@spiritsofstl.com
Show and Tell:
- Dan Morrison displayed about 6 or 7 “Beginner” type electric airplanes out of 46 that he purchased from a man getting out of the hobby. Membership Report: – Greg Tesson
- Current YTD membership is 111…Seven ahead of last year.
- New member; Kareem Boakye-Yiadom
- Flight Training every Thursday @ 5:30 from mid-May to mid-October.
- The “Just One” challenge was started…introduce “just one” individual to our hobby.
- We received $30 in donations this last month.
Safety Committee Chair/FAA Liaison – Dave Harrington
- Need to provide “YOUR OWN” fire extinguisher for gasoline and turbine powered aircraft.
- IF you use one of the club’s fire extinguishers or first aid items – please replace it!
- The only way to put out a LiPo battery fire is to bury it in sand. We have a bucket of sand by the pavilion and the Safety Rules board (the old frequency board).
Treasurer Report: – Wayne Nenninger
- Difficult to forecast past 2027, ~$15K current budget, going to $20K? (Mowing)
- Looking ahead may mean dues increase. We went from $135 to $150 in 2016! More members fixes all.
- Treasurers report accepted.
Investment Oversight Committee:
- Charter is still in work.
- Once charter is approved…money will be invested.
- Members of committee include the Treasurer, President and all Lifetime members.
Field Committee Chairman Report – Dave Brown:
- Field Maintenance Job Jar…If you see something that needs attention go to website, locate the Job Jar and fill it out. Anyone can do it!
- It was agreed that all completed jobs in jar will be removed.
- Paul Geders was tasked with updating Job Jar…completed.
- TAKE YOUR BAD BATTERY/S HOME AND DON’T LEAVE AT FIELD, Then to Batteries Plus!
- Need to find where you can dispose of batteries…it was stated that Batteries + no longer does it. However, yes, Batteries Plus recycles a variety of batteries, including lead-acid, lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium, and alkaline batteries. You can bring your used batteries to any Batteries Plus location for proper recycling.
- Will be refilling cracks in runway
Announcements/Upcoming Events:
- April 18 CAP Event has been rescheduled to May 23rd.
- We need instructor pilots! Weather protocol will be determined by Dave Harrington (Event sponsor)
- May-to-October club meetings will be held at club’s Bob Gizzie Field.
Possible alternate/exception is B. Halls if weather is formidable.
- 2026 Pylon Racing dates: Saturday 10 am 16 May, 20 June, 18 July, 15 August, 19 September and 17 October.
- CD’ s needed for 18 July and 19 September.
- June 11-14 Whirlybird Classic, Michael Graves/Mac Baker – Club member help needed.
