I am against buying Dave’s used equipment.
Times have changed and one thing is for sure, expenses hardly ever go down, they only go up, so I approve the dues increase.
I voted “no” on the recent initiative to double the club dues for 2027. My thoughts in voting the way I did was that doubling the dues, while reaching solvency in one fell swoop, may end up having a “shock” effect on the membership whereby many members may drop from the club without due consideration. Not being familiar with the club finances, I ask myself, do we need to carry $30k in the savings account each year? Maybe we can “sneak up” on solvency by a more incremental or stair-step increase in the dues, working off of the balance we are carrying in the savings account. We may in the end, after a few years, have a reduced bank balance but we may be able to retain more members, spreading out the eventual cost and buying time for the club. Plus, an incremental increase may allow time to look at other cost-cutting measures we may employ or may that may present themselves in the future.
Well said Bob! I too am puzzled by the amount of savings we seem to carry every month and at the end of the year particularly since we are a “not for profit organization”. Maybe I’m missing something.
I could vote for $50.
Considering the costs related to mowing in the future the increase is reasonable. This amount is in line with what other clubs charge like SLRCFA $215-$250.
