Race results and reflections
We had a pretty solid turnout for this month’s pylon races. 14 planes, 3 classes and 10 different pilots competed with terrific weather in what turned out to be a pretty competitive event. I want to thank the many members who turned out to watch and assist with the marshaling and scoring. Your help really counts! It worked out well and a good time was had by all. Several heats had the win decided with a last lap pass!
Final results were as follows:
Uproars had Sid Kinzel trailing Dan Morrison for the win by 1 point.
Four-Star 40s had some really tight racing among 6 pilots with Ralph Doyle finishing just behind Paul Geders and Dan Morrison who tied in points for the win.
Stock Warbirds had 6 pilots with Rich Taylor and Steve Collins tied for second behind Dan Morrison and his FMS Blue Thunder P-51. The FMS P-51’s are really well suited for this event and they make for some fast, close and very exciting racing!
We have a great deal of fun racing these planes. If you want to get involved, the rules are simple and can be found here: Pylon Racing Rules or just ask the usual suspects at the field. All the planes we fly are stock out of the box types so its easy to show up with a competitive model and join in the fun! The pylons are typically up all season, so you can show up anytime and practice.
I saw several folks with cameras at the field during the contest. We’d like to see some of those pictures shared here. I’ll see if Stephen can add a link in here somewhere to upload what you have, please!
We have opportunity for one more Pylon Race for the year. Paul Geders as agreed to organize this event Oct 5th and is in need of some volunteers to pull it together. Let Paul know if you can jump in for this contest by emailing him here: Paul Geders
If you have any other event you’d like to sponsor (we’re wide open for next year), reach out to me right here–> vicepresident@spiritsofstl.com
See you at the field!
