17 members attended the meeting and we had one Guest, Mark Tillotson.

Secretary’s report:

Ralph Doyle, Secretary

Motion made, seconded and voted to accept the December meeting minutes as emailed and published on the Spirits web site. The link is located near the upper right of the web site home page. The PayPal system is now available for you to renew your membership! There are two options available: You may print out an application, fill it out, and mail it along with your check and copy of your new AMA card to the membership chairman. Method number two is the use of PayPal. You still need to fill out and mail (or email) an application to the membership chairman.

Treasurer’s Report:

Steve Cross, Treasurer

The treasurer’s report was passed out at the meeting and there were no corrections. The bank transfers have been made and the taxes and bills have been paid. A discussion was held concerning grass cutting and the possibility of reducing the cost of cutting in order to reduce expenses.

Field Committee Report:

Dave Brown, Field Committee Chairman

There were no reports concerning any problems at the field.

Safety Committee Report:

Safety Committee Report: Several members are flying from the pit area. All flying should be done from the pilots’ stations

Membership Chairman’s Report

Ralph Doyle, membership Chairman

Ralph Grant is working hard to implement an on-line membership renewal process where you can renew using a PAY-PAL account. If you choose not to use this method of payment  you can renew your club membership the old fashioned way, you can go to the web site and download the members’ application and mail it to me (or email it if you choose that version. You still need to mail me a check) Remember you MAY NOT FLY after the first of the year if you have not renewed your AMA membership. There is a very good reason for this: You are not covered by AMA insurance and that is one of the requirements that you, as a member, need to meet.  If you plan on flying after January 1st, 2020 you will also need a NEW red club membership card. We currently have 73 renewed and new members. By the end of the month last year we has 78 members.

Old Business:

There was no old business.

New Business:

  • There was some discussion concerning bidding for field mowing and it was suggested that there is time to consider any changes from the present before the mowing season starts. The club has an opportunity to save about $300/year on mowing services if the new service provider was selected. We are still waiting on our current provider to respond to our request for bid. This decision will need to be made at the next meeting.
  • The next model event on the calendar is scheduled for Feb.15, 2020 from 9AM-1PM at Hope Lutheran Church and is an in-door fly-in. Entry fee is $5.00.
  • In an effort to increase membership a motion was made, seconded and approved by the membership present that any current member of another club that may be in the process of closing, be given the opportunity to join the Spirits for one year at half price, i.e. $75.
  • The calendar of events is now up to date on the website. You can subscribe to the calendar on your phone to always have the latest calendar information for the club with you at all times.

Getting new members and introducing people to this amazing hobby is the responsibility of EVERY Spirits Member! When you see a spectator at the field, GO MEET THEM! If we could get everyone tapping into their inner Bob Gizzie, membership would not be an issue. Our goal should be to get a radio in the hands of every potential member!

Ralph Grant, Spirits President, At the Meeting.

Presentations:

Paul Geders presented an old racing plane called “CASSUTT” that is powered by a conquest 15 engine.

Steve Ramonczuk  showed an E -Flight F-4 Phantom that uses a 12 blade 80mm fan driven by a 6S battery. It has sturdy retracts and runs about $319.

A modelers favorite plane, the T-33 Shooting Star, is owned by David Harrington, who paid Motion R/C $389 for the privilege of flying this one. A 9 bladed fan sucking juice through a 100A ESC powers this bird. David’s father flew the exact plane that this model is based on, Tail Numbers and All!

Meeting adjourned to Serra’s Pizza at 8:45pm for a little Revelry and Discussion About Airplanes!
