The 2026 racing season continues with our fourth pylon racing event of 2026, to be held on August 15th, 10am at Bob Gizzie Memorial Field. We look forward to Stephen Adams being our CD for this event.
Pilots, bring your stuff. This is real competition and the race day event setup only happens on race days. These races really get the adrenaline flowing as we punch holes in the sky chasing each other around the course. The rules are very straighforward, easy to understand and comply with. If you have any questions, just ask one of the usual suspects at the field.
For those that do not have the thirst for adrenaline, come out and watch these very “Spirits RC” events, they are entertaing to just watch. If you can help with judging/scoring, we’ll get you right up next to the action!
We still need a contest director (CD) for Event 4, Sept 19. If you have interest in assisting the club with this position, please reach out to me: president@spiritsofstl.com. Pylon racing events also need about 5-6 volunteers to help with scoring and cut judging, in addition to the CD. Our membership needs to be involved here, both as racers (obviously), but also to help conduct the event, observe and record the scoring. We have a few volunteers that help repeatedly and we do appreciate their involvement, we are always looking for a few more to spread the opportunity around. Our racing events have produced some very competitive heats multiple times per event and are quite entertaining to watch. We’ve honed this program to move smoothly, it averages about 10 minutes to cycle through each heat, so 6-8 minutes of relax/prepare followed by 2-4 minutes of intense chase for the checkered flag – so wait time between heats for ‘the next thing’ to begin is low.
