Opening – Dan Morrison
Meeting called to order 7:04p
Dan Morrison spoke briefly about the BOP (Big Orange Plane) that he demonstrated immediately before the meeting. Its primary duty will be introductory flights with buddy box system for new and prospective entrants to the hobby. He is planning to have this system available for qualified spectators at the upcoming Airshow and Fun-Fly.
Secretary’s Report: Stephen Adams
Minutes from Aug mtg. Just posted to website today. *Approved*
Treasury Report – Wayne Nenninger
Circulated copies for review. *Approved*
Membership Report – Greg Tesson
123 members. This time last year was 126.
Field Committee Report – Paul Geders, Terry Houts and Greg Tesson.
The field looks great thanks to Dave and Terry! Pit and picnic tables need repair/replacement, runway needs re-striping, tractor will have leak fixed in coming weeks. Recommend boards on the picnic tables be removed and flipped over. Need volunteers with WD-40, wrenches and ratchets to get this process started. Next time you fly take time to flip a board, or few. It’s a team effort.
Safety Report – Sid Kinzel (not present)
Rich T pointed out that someone might have had a stroke, etc at the field, but did not have the address for Gizzie Field to call an ambulance. Dan Morrison advised that he would produce some additional signage in the near term to address this and to spruce up the remaining signage at field. Greg Tesson will update new membership cards to include address and possibly some emergency contacts on reverse.

President’s Message
This upcoming Airshow and Fun Fly is an event that will showcase who we are and what we do. If you value our arrangements with the flying field and management of same, please make it your individual mission to be involved and to tell/invite/bring people. Think of this not as a contest, but as a drive to increase awareness for our hobby and our club. More people in the hobby and the club means easy time making budgets and more amenities for ame.
Club officers nominations
This is our September meeting, so Pres, VP, Secretary and Treasurer are up up for a vote and those that wish to participate in these capacities should be nominated now or by email to bod@spiritsofstl.com. Online voting will start one week before the October mtg and new officers will assume their positions at the conclusion of the Oct mtg. (Bylaws Art. 3) No nominees presented at meeting.
Steve Ramonczuk expressed issues with the way some of the scoring was being tallied for the Pylon Championships. It was noted that this is the inaugural season for this type event and agreed that the series’ organization needs adjustments between Nov mtg and finalized by Mar meeting such all participants have input and consideration for the overall benefit of these particular events. We want to promote entry level to expand the ranks of the competition, so focus should remain on ‘stock’ type aircraft in the three primary classes (Uproar, Four-Star 40 and Stock Electric Warbirds) leaving the Unlimited Electric Warbirds class to the more advanced. The latter continually struggles with enough entrants to have a ‘race’, so some criteria for whether a class is run and pays points will also need to considered.
