This beast is destined for the firewall of the 1:3 Scale Barth Waco which is nearing completion. Naturally this engine is overkill but, hey, why not? Spent last weekend breaking in the motor at the Field. One gallon of gas, run rich, and no more than 3/4 throttle. With frequent cooling cycles. Dustin W. was a great help during break-in. The sheer force of wind being moved was impressive. Never experienced anything like it in RC. When the break-in was winding down I leaned out the motor 1/4 on the high end and 1/8 turn on the low end. Likely can lean it more but, as it sits, it transitions very well.
The UMS engine is made in India and purchased through MorrisMiniMotors.com in Alberta Canada. Took about eight weeks to arrive which was fine due to the amount of construction still underway on the airframe. Besides, it sat for another month or so before I was close enough to completion to fire it up. Thanks to Ralph G for the loan of the engine test mount. Next step is to mount it temporarily to validate center-of-gravity and determine how much standoff it requires (minimum of 1″ to clear the cowl)
