Waco YMF-5 Part 12

Admittedly, it’s been too long since I posted an update. Partly because life got in the way. Second, progress was slow with wiring and the like (not very exciting work to photograph), third, I got stuck in a few areas and had to do some re-work. The N struts were hard balsa but proved too fragile so I rebuilt with shaped hardwood. Rich helped me with a firewall offset in metal but it weighed almost 5 lbs! We both agreed this will be TOO heavy so I built a wooden unit which weighs less than half-pound. The motor is a fair bit larger than recommended so I don’t expect the need for nose weight. Almost finished with the pinking tape. I need to rework the tail wheel and troubleshoot an issue with the rudder servo. Thanks to Dustin for stopping by and helping me sort out a wiring concern in the upper wing center section. (Sometimes you stare at something for so long you lose perspective.)

I need to build the fairings (styrene) from the fuse-to-landing-gear and install the fiberglass fairings from the gear-to-wheel-pants. At that point it will be time for paint. A deep red with black trim. Most the the trim is from Callie Graphics but I will need to paint a few items.

Servos are installed. Once painted, I need to lock in the flying wires, install the fuel and smoke tank setup, fuel pump, rudder pushrods and horns
