Dan Morrison was CD for the third round of Four Star 40, Uproar and Stock Electric Warbird Pylon Racing on Saturday July 19th. Special thanks go to our volunteers for helping make the day a success! The weather threatened, it even sprinkled a few times, but in the end, the heat held off and the skies parted just enough to get in two full rounds with three classes of racing.
Championship Series Round 3 started with three Stock Warbird entries. Apparently, the competitors were a little jumpy as all three planes were DQ’d for 2+ cuts each in the first heat! Round 2 was back to the more familiar business of aerial pursuit with a crowd pleasing heat that earned the gold and 4 points for Ralph D. vs Paul’s 3 points for silver. Dave Brown collected the bronze with 2 points.
The Uproars were a little thin on competition with only 2 entries. Paul Geders took the gold with 10 points over Dave Brown’s 5 points for silver. We need some new competitors in this class, its a great place for newcomers to experience real racing! Newcomers also get a handicap so you can make the more experienced pilots work to keep up with you!
The Four Star 40 races were very competitive and exciting to watch. Dave Brown piloted his newly minted yellow Four-Star to edge out Paul Geders and take the gold with 10 vs. 8 points earned and Ralph D. collected bronze with 5 points. Ralph D. benefitted from two DNS’s to win the first heat, but the blue and yellow bomber made an unwelcomed dive into the corn in the last heat.
We have a great deal of fun racing these planes. If you want to get involved, the rules are simple and can be found here: Pylon Racing Rules or just ask the usual suspects at the field. All the planes we fly are stock out of the box types so its easy to show up with a competitive model and join in the fun! The pylons are typically up all season, so you can show up anytime and practice.
Come join the fun at the next race, Round 4 August 16th, details can be found from the home page: https://spiritsofstl.com/
