Dave Harrington did a terrific job as CD for the opening round of Four Star 40, Uproar and Stock Electric Warbird Pylon Racing on Saturday May 10th. Thanks to everyone who helped to make the day a success! Dave and Terry had the field in tip top shape and the cut judges and lap counters did a great job! We could not hold these events without your continued support. Thank you!
The Four Star 40 races were very competitive and exciting to watch. Dan Morrison edged out Greg Tesson to take the gold with a total of 14 points earned over Greg’s 12. Ralph Doyle and Steve Cross rounded out the class. Unfortunately, Dave Brown’s aircraft lost a muffler early in the first heat and was not able the continue. Steve nearly lost his but noticed the muffler nut loose prior to beginning the last heat.
Next up we had seven Stock Warbird entries. Dan Morrison had a two point advantage over Steve Collins at the end of the day for another gold. Dan earned 9 points vs Steve’s 7. Rich Taylor and Steve Romonczk shared the bronze with 4 points each.
Uproars Started with 4 entries. Ralph Grant takes the gold with 11 points over Curt’s 8. Dave Brown had 2 points. Dave had a mechanical issue with his plane and withdrew after the first round.

The weather for was good but a little windy during the latter heats. Steve Pokorny supplied hamburgers, Ralph grilled them and everyone had a good time. Just what the plan was 🙂
We have a great deal of fun racing these planes. If you want to get involved, the rules are simple and can be found here: Pylon Racing Rules or just ask the usual suspects at the field. All the planes we fly are stock out of the box types so its easy to show up with a competitive model and join in the fun! The pylons are typically up all season, so you can show up anytime and practice.
Come join the fun at the next race, Round 2 June 14th, details are found here: https://spiritsofstl.com/2025/05/16/pylon-racing-on-june-14th/
