Let the racing begin!
Spirits of St Louis RC has its own brand of pylon racing that is designed to encourage entry-level and experienced sport pilots alike to race with a common sport plane and spec’d power combinations. Its a low-pressure racing atmosphere and when the racing is over the same planes can be “sport flown” every day. We have tremendous fun racing these planes together. If you’re not involved, you are honestly missing something.
The 2025 Pylon Racing season will begin with Round 1 of a 6 Round Championship Series on May 10th. This year we will aggregate the scoring from each round, culminating with Round 6 on Oct 18. We’ll be declaring a Club Champion for each of the classes – REAL BRAGGIN’ RIGHTS!

If you’ve not competed before, it is suggested that you start with the Tower Hobbies UpRoar ARF. The airframe is readily available for just under $100. Add your radio and bolt on a .40-.46 glow engine with a 10×6 Master Airscrew prop and you have a competitive airplane. Practice with the pylons we leave up throughout the season to hone your flying skills and your ready to have real fun. We have codified a handicap system in the updated rules to help newcomers be competitive and give the more experienced pilots a real challenge.
If flying pylon is not for you (can’t imagine why), we are always looking for folks to help count laps and watch for pylon cuts…come on out and watch/help. Each of the races will be posted on the website with the Contest Director in charge listed with their contact info. Just reach out to the Contest Director to be hooked up with a great seat, line you up on a duty and maybe even cover your lunch!
