Paul Geders was asked to take the minutes.
Treasurer’s Report:

The Treasurer’s report was shared and had no corrections. We had debits of $892.74 and Income of $387.02. Motion to accept passed.
Field Committee Report:
Dave Brown, Field Committee Chairman
- Dave indicated that he spoke to soon last month about no longer mowing after this year. He is going to see a doctor about his back. He said that he and Rich Taylor (who has been helping mowing) are wearing back braces, and they are working! Dave also said he would not be accepting the position of Field Committee Chairman next year! The chairman’s job is to “ensure that the field and equipment are properly maintained and recommend improvements or changesâ€.
- Dave has found another way to take care of the moles. He’s using road flares! He opens a run, lights the fuse, and covers up the opening…voila a lot less moles. He almost seemed “giddy†about his new mole mass extermination technique.
- Dave had metal “Please Close the Gate†signs made and will be installed shortly. REMEMBER: Please do not forget to close the gate behind you if you are the last one out, no matter what time of day. Do not assume you are saving someone time later on, or that there will be someone there later to close and lock the gate. It is important to correctly latch the chain on the gate as well to make it appear that the gate is actually locked.
- Dave sent photos of our “warped†firepit grates to the manufacturer. They sent a free new grate which is stored in Dave’s basement. He straightened the warped one which is now still usable till the new one is needed.
- We need 2 new fire extinguishers to replace ones that aren’t serviceable. Will be purchased ASAP.
- Lastly, Dave made a great “test†repair to the “dipsy doodle†crack to the left of the pilot’s stations, which looks fantastic. It consisted of cutting out about a foot wide section of asphalt and the layers of repairs creating the dipsy doodle. Replacing with base rock from the parking lot and then using Sakrete concrete that is flush to the adjacent asphalt. Finally, sealed with driveway sealer. Check it out.
- Dave provided a detailed material proposal utilizing his technique to repair the four worst runway cracks that are the most troublesome, and have the most use. Approximate cost is $1650. Motion to accept passed unanimously.
- A work party to do these repairs is scheduled for the weekend of October 7th and 8th. Will keep the members posted if there is a change in dates. Covered pallets of 42 80-pound bags of Sakrete each will be delivered totaling approximately 245 bags. Need strong individuals to help move each bag to the concrete mixer.
- We will need several wheel barrows for disposing of the material removed, and transporting the bags of Sakrete. Dave will supply the rest of the equipment required.
- WE WILL NEED ALL THE ABLE-BODIED MEMBERS WE CAN GET TO ASSIST.
Safety Committee Report:
Sid Kinzel, Field Committee Chairman
Nothing safety related to report on this month.
Membership Chairman’s Report
Ralph Doyle, membership Chairman
We have 116 Current Members. Last Year we had 119 at this time.
Old Business:
- Paul Geders reported that the Ameren Missouri Line Covering Division has placed a work order to replace the deteriorated high visibility balls and line covers on the power lines along Amrein Rd. They asked what we would like and he said 3 12†Red balls and 4 yellow line covers.
- On September 9th Rich Taylor’s, Wayne Nenninger’s, and Dan Morrison’s AMA Sanctioned Fun Fly will be happening. We are hoping to get members from other clubs to attend. They are asking for Donations to be used as awards. If you have anything you would like to donate, please let Rich, Wayne, or Dan know.
- They are planning on having it set up with a “chance†or “luck†element like drawing poker cards to build the best hand. THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE…IT’S FREE AND ANYONE CAN PARTICIPATE. If needed we will even have someone help you take-off and land.
- A MOTION WAS MADE AND PASSED THAT “FIELD IS CLOSED AT MEETING TIME TILL ADJOURNMENTâ€
New Business:
- A humongous discussion between members on “Getting more members†took place. Resulting in Dan Morrison taking on the task and will be looking into things like flight instructors, etc. Will report at next meeting.
After the adjournment of the August meeting at the field there was several flying members flying internal LED lit up airplanes. It was as if they were flying in daylight…and having a blast!
