Spirits' Flight Training Program

FREE Introductory Flights

Free Introductory Flight ButtonAt Spirits we pride ourselves on our ability to help Newcomers experience the RC aviation hobby. Many people, after taking their first Introductory Flight become Spirits' Members and go on to take continuing instruction from our volunteer instructor staff. There is never any charge or fee for introductory flights for Newcomers or Continuing Flight Instruction for Spirits' members. Following the guidance of our instructors you will be flying solo before you know it, no prior knowledge of RC flying is required. Just a desire to learn and have fun!

One of the best ways to get someone interested in model aviation is to give them the opportunity to fly a model plane. The Spirits have at least two events a year in which we allow newcomers to experience model aviation by controlling a model aircraft themselves. Typically, during Boy Scout day and our Annual Open House, we introduce dozens of prospective new pilots and new members to the hobby.

If you always wanted to fly a remote controlled plane click the link at the right and send us an email. We'll get back to you and work out a time for you to meet one of our instructors at the field and go for a flight.

Newcomers

StopBefore you purchase ANY airplanes, helicopters, radios or flight support equipment talk to one of our instructors and review the "Recommended Beginner Kits" link below. Starting with the right aircraft and equipment will make learning easier and cheaper. The beginner kits selected in our handout have been reviewed and flown by many of our instructors. They were chosen for ease of assembly, good flight characteristics, availability of spare parts, and minimal cost. The Spirits worked closely with Mark Twain Hobby Center to assemble these packages.

10% Discount

Newcomers that join the Spirits may receive a 10% off coupon at Mark Twain Hobby Center toward the purchase of one of the aircraft and radio options listed in this list. You must join Spirits to receive this coupon. See your flight instructor regarding this offer and to receive a coupon.

Spectators Always Welcome!

At Spirit's we welcome spectators with open arms. Our field is like having your own private park with an airshow happening in the middle. There is never any charge for spectators to visit. Bring a lawn chair and stay for the day, with mature shade trees and a pavilion with ceiling fans you can beat the summer heat. Concessions are usually available during events and restroom facilities are always available on site.

If you want to check out some the aircraft, ask any of our pilot members, I'm sure they will be happy to talk with you and show you their aircraft. Please respect the posted signs. They are there to ensure your safety.

You don't have to wait for an event... If the weather is nice there is usually someone at the field. Feel free to drop in on us anytime. The field is open from 9 AM till dusk every day. Click the link above for directions to the field or use your GPS. The Spirits flying field is located at:

73 Amrein Road, St. Charles, MO 63303

Lat. 38.702006, Long. -90.577898
